What gets matched
Feast aligns logged nutrition with the relevant sleep period using its date and night logic. The analytical unit is a matched night, not an isolated meal. Late meals, time-zone changes, naps, shift work, missing sleep stages, and partially logged days can assign or omit context in ways that matter. Review the underlying dates before interpreting the statistic.
Data completeness comes first
A long calendar span is not the same as a large usable sample. A night may have sleep data but incomplete meal logging, or a complete food record but no usable sleep record. Device changes and permission gaps can also create blocks of missingness. The analyzed sample should be understood as the available matched records, not automatically as a representative picture of every day.
What exploratory analysis can show
The system can compare available nutrient variables with sleep outcomes and surface associations within one person's record. Direction, magnitude, consistency, and sample size all matter. An association describes the analyzed observations under the chosen method; it does not establish a universal response or prove that changing the nutrient will change sleep.
Confounding
Schedule, stress, illness, exercise, alcohol, caffeine, medications, travel, and many other factors can influence eating and sleep together. For example, a late social evening may change meal timing, alcohol intake, bedtime, and sleep duration at once. Matching nights does not remove those alternative explanations.
Multiple comparisons and chance findings
Testing many nutrients against several sleep outcomes creates many opportunities for an apparently notable pattern to appear by chance. Treat isolated results as hypotheses, especially when the sample is small or the direction changes across nearby time windows. More data can improve stability but cannot repair systematically missing or biased logs.
A responsible next step
If a pattern suggests a low-risk, practical question, define one change, an observation window, and the outcome before testing it. Keep other major factors as comparable as real life permits and note deviations. Seek qualified care for persistent sleep problems, symptoms, medication questions, or any change with material health risk; Feast does not diagnose or treat sleep disorders.
