Food data is useful only when the match is honest.

A calorie number without a food description, amount, and source is confidence theater. Explore 3,850 traceable profiles designed to help you choose a closer record—and recognize when the database still cannot see your meal.

Read any profile in three passes

First identify the food. Then scale the amount. Last, interrogate the mismatch.

  1. 01

What is the record actually describing?

Preparation words, sauces, fillings, skin, cooking fat, and “with” or “without” qualifiers often matter more than the familiar meal name.

  2. 02

What weight does the number represent?

Per 100 grams compares concentration. A named household measure estimates an amount. The database’s source serving is not automatically your portion.

  3. 03

    What would move the answer?

Recipe proportions, brand, water loss, edible portion, and additions can exceed the apparent precision of a scaled decimal. Record what you know; preserve uncertainty where you do not.

Browse by category

Start broad, then earn specificity

Each category now maps its central nutrient ranges, source subgroups, household-measure coverage, and narrower evidence topics before listing the exact records. A category is a route to a match—not an average meal disguised as an answer.

Useful starting points

Begin where food identity and portion both matter

These profiles span mixed dishes, cooking-method distinctions, household measures, and foods whose values can shift with additions. Each one keeps the source amount, per-100-gram values, uncertainty factors, and direct USDA record visible.

01

Provenance before precision

Every profile identifies the underlying USDA FoodData Central record and release. A traceable approximation is more useful than an uncited number presented with extra decimal places.

02

Denominator before comparison

Per 100 grams, a source serving, and the amount on your plate answer different questions. Feast labels the denominator so portion size cannot masquerade as a nutrient-density difference.

03

Uncertainty with a name

“It varies” is not enough. Profiles identify the recipe, preparation, weight, brand, and edible-portion factors most likely to move a particular estimate.
