FNDDS 2021–2023Exact record directory

Do not ask for “the” nutrition of a meal until you choose which meal.

Browse 3,850 USDA Survey Foods profiles. Each page preserves the full source description, distinguishes equal-weight values from household measures, and names the details most likely to make your version different.

01

Name before number

“Chicken,” “chicken thigh, roasted, skin not eaten,” and “chicken with sauce” are not interchangeable labels. Match the complete description before copying a value.

02

Denominator before difference

Per 100 grams compares concentration. A listed cup, piece, slice, or source serving scales an amount. Showing both prevents portion size from impersonating a recipe effect.

03

Context before confidence

Brand, recipe ratio, cooking fat, water loss, toppings, and edible portion can move the answer. The right response is a named uncertainty—not another decimal place.

What this corpus was built from

Survey-food references, not a live inventory of every recipe and brand.

FNDDS provides nutrient profiles for foods reported in What We Eat in America, the dietary component of NHANES. USDA says its nutrient profiles represent generic foods and its portion gram weights are estimates for groups of foods; they may not represent every size or specific product.

That makes these records valuable comparison points. It does not turn them into measurements of an unseen plate. Use a current label for a packaged product and weighed ingredients plus finished yield for a recipe when those are available.
